Challenge

Unaccompanied children crossing US borders are some of the most vulnerable of migrants. In the effort to protect this at-risk population, the keys to success are often locked up in the data, its trends, and the speed at which it can be analyzed.

Solution and impact

We used hybrid mobile application development to create a dashboarding/reporting application to provide rapidly consumable insights into the care and transport of unaccompanied children with HHS. This mobile application enables analytical abilities and data drilldowns, on the move, to the decision makers best positioned to make a positive impact.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE

Challenge

In the world of public health emergency response, lives lost can be measured in time to deploy. The CDC continually needs to adapt to new technologies and leverage automation to accelerate the pace at which they save lives.

Challenge

The Maryland Health Care Commission was using a legacy system for collecting, processing, and analyzing hospital quality and core measures. Consequently, business processes were outdated and not fully automated, causing staff to spend excessive amount of time on tactical tasks.

United Solutions built the Maryland Healthcare Quality Reports, a website to collect, analyze, and publish healthcare related data such as core performance measures, clinical data, and Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

Challenge

Montgomery County Public Schools faced a rapidly shrinking budget and widening education gap. Executives started initiatives to streamline the back office and improve the delivery of education using technology as a catalyst.

Solution and impact

United Solutions modernized the budgeting system allowing financial planners to collaborate, create, and track monthly forecasts for each General Ledger Chart of Accounts. We “digitalized” the human capital planning process for educators and streamlined activities for principals, human resource specialists, and union representatives. We streamlined the student information system, built electronic transcripts, and revamped the procurement system.

Challenge

The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System needed help modernizing its business intelligence and data warehouse infrastructure for consumer credit risk analysis.

United Solutions modernized the business intelligence infrastructure by implementing SAS BI VA, the latest and best data visualization technology in the market. We also worked with executives and managers to develop dashboards, set up the security model, design the data warehouse, migrate the data, and create visually exciting business analytics.

Challenge

The MDTA DOIT was unable to meet the compounding business demands for innovation. The business units started to acquire cloud solutions and innovations directly from the market.

Using System Dynamics and EA, we helped transform the MDTA DOIT from tactical computer help desk to a strategic mobile and IoT innovator. We composed the strategic plan and helped restructure the DOIT to make it more nimble, responsive, and innovative.

The MD MVA’s legacy infrastructure crippled its ability to deliver fast and reliable services to over 6 million residents. Customers had to endure, on average, 1-2 hour wait times.

United Solutions modernized the mobile, application, and network infrastructure and reduced the average wait time to 30 minutes. We built a massive service-oriented architecture to manage terabytes of digital imaging data, shift business online, and process $1B+ in payments annually.

Challenge

With budgets shrinking, the Federal Government found itself unable to continue to rely only on human labor to monitor, inspect, and enforce compliance with Section 508 and Security legislation.

Solution and impact

United Solutions built an Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing platform that can automatically scan millions of documents posted on FBO.gov and other federal websites to predict with up to 90% accuracy which are non-compliant with certain federal laws and regulations.

MAS DLT Modernization

Challenge

The GSA, FAS, and MAS programs establishes long-term, government-wide contracts that provide easy access to more than 25 million commercial products and services identified by SINs for federal, state, and local governments to place orders at discount pricing using streamlined ordering procedures. GSA sought to automate the current FASt Lane contract proposal review processes by using DLT along with Smart Contracts, automated Machine Learning technology, and/or Artificial Intelligence.

Solution and impact

We delivered a Design Concept, Business Process Design, Scalable Architecture, and Proof of Concept using Blockchain, DLT, and Smart Contracts to reduce the amount of human interaction and automate the offer review process. DLT is applied to track and integrate the entire procurement process in an interoperable manner.

Strategic Planning

Challenge

Rival social networks threatened to steal away members from AARP’s membership base. AARP wanted to adopt technologies that could streamline the strategic planning process and free up financial resources for innovation.

We innovate by aligning customer needs, technical feasibility, and viability. Human Centered-Design (HCD) facilitates discovery where we empathize with our customers, identify their pain points, and ideate solutions in partnership.

By understanding customer needs first, we maximize the probability that the final product is not just something that meets the business needs, but also delights those who use it. Only through empathetic understanding can we effectively identify emerging technologies that can be applied to solve challenges.

HCD is both a process and a mind-set that hinges around the idea that real success comes from true, human understanding and interaction.
Where to begin? Instead of making assumptions, we ask questions. Getting to know your customer is the first step to a better product and staying true to human centered design. We stand in the customer’s shoes to discover their problems and how it personally affects them.

Only then can we gather inspiration and begin research. We look at all angles. Everyone’s points of view, needs, and values are important to us.

1. Empathize with the Customer


Understand the issues your customers face. Put yourself directly in your client’s shoes to really grasp their dilemma. Engage them in all aspects of product development.

2. Learn & Define


Take the time to learn before you deliver a solution. Consult with subject matter experts to fully digest the challenges. Define your goals with the customer in mind.
Now we turn our insights into tangible ideas. Quantity over Quality. The objective is to come up with as many solutions as possible. All ideas have potential, but it is important to focus on the needs of the people you’re designing for. We aim to create something that is desirable, feasible, and viable.

Our ideas provide the fuel and substance for building prototypes. Getting them into the hands of the people is priority since we design with user experience in mind. Prototypes start the conversation to better create and refine a product for the customer.

3. Conceptualize


We brainstorm with the customer. No idea is bad or too outrageous. Judgement only hinders the creative process. We aim to create the unthinkable.

4. Create to Innovate


Time to start building out your ideas! We consider workflows, human interactions, and user experience. We develop with the future in mind.
Put your product to the test. Perfecting the product is an iterative process. We involve everyone in validating the product before we deliver to the world. Even when we take the product to market, our job isn’t finished.

It’s important to continuously refine our human centered product to meet the evolving needs of the world. We deploy our product to ensure everyone that needs our product has easy access when they need it.
